The Prague Quadrennial of Theatre Design and Space (PQ) is held every four years by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and brings the best design, scenography, and theatre architecture together for exhibition; nearly 80 countries were represented in 2019. During the 2017 United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) conference, I was invited by the organization’s Vice President for Special Operations to apply and was ultimately selected to act as Technical Director for the United States professional and emerging exhibits. USITT is the primary professional organization for theatre design and technology in the United States, sponsor organization for the US PQ entries, setting standards within the discipline, and a International Organization of Scenographers Theatre Architects and Technicians (OISTAT) Center. I would oversee engineering, fabrication, and logistics on behalf of USITT. These exhibits created a sculptural home for the selected scenography from all over the United States of America.
The digital content for the professional exhibit can be seen here, and the emerging here.
The first public showing of the exhibits took place in Buffalo in late January 2019.
The exhibits traveled to Kentucky for the 2019 USITT conference before Prague.
